Jc Counts to Five returns for week 18 of the Premier League. This week featured traditional Boxing day fare, late goals, Chelsea staying in control and United finally finding a foe they could beat. Here’s some numbers.
96 – Minutes per goal for Iheanacho
Kelechi Iheanacho has the best minutes per goal ratio of any player in PL history with at least 10 goals, surpassing teammate Sergio Aguero. His 12 Premier League goals have come from just 19 shots on target. David Silva has provided 61 assists since he came into the Premier League, more assists than any other player in the competition since then. Yaya Touré became the 1st player since Papiss Cissé in 2012, 2013 and 2014 to score a PL goal on Boxing Day three seasons in a row. Raheem Sterling has won seven penalties in the PL since the start of the 2013-14 campaign. That’s good enough for second, incredibly Jamie Vardy has won 10. Yaya Toure has scored all 10 of his EPL penalties, the best 100% record in the competition..
85 – Days in charge for Bob Bradley
It can’t be a surprise that he got sacked, during his tenure his Swans conceded 26 goals, more goals than any other Premier League side. He won just two of his 11 matches in charge, for a win percentage of 18%, the lowest in Swansea City PL history.
50– PL goals for Eden Hazard
He became the sixth player to reach the milestone for Chelsea, after Lampard, Drogba, Hasselbaink, Zola and Gudjohnsen.. Chelsea have won 12 consecutive league games for the first time in their history. Cesc Fabregas has provided 98 assists in the PL, fourth most in history. Chelsea haven’t lost a league game on Boxing Day since being beaten by Charlton 4-2 in 2003.
100 – Goals for Fat Drake
Troy Deeney, who was described as attacking the ball with all the fury he last used to attack his Christmas pudding became the fifth player to score 100 goals for Watford after Luther Blissett, Tommy Barnett, Ross Jenkins and Cliff Holton. No goalkeeper has saved more penalties in the PL since the start of 2015-16 than Watford’s Heurelho Gomes with four. Of all PL keepers to face 20 or more penalties, only David Seaman (32%) has a better save % than Heurelho Gomes (30% – he’s saved nine of 30). Watford had to overcome some early adversity as they became just the fourth team in Premier League history to have two starting players subbed off in the opening 15 minutes. Watford haven’t won a top-flight league game on Boxing Day for 30 years, since beating Luton Town 2-0 in 1986.
50 – Keepers with assists in EPL
Joel Robles became the 50th and is the first Everton goalkeeper to provide an assist in the PL since Tim Howard against Newcastle United on 30 September 2013. The last keeper in the league with one was Fabianski in Jan, 2016 for Swansea versus Sunderland.
15 – Age of Pietro Pellegri
The youngster came off the bench for Genoa and became the joint youngest ever player in Serie A history, at 15 years and 280 days. The joint record is shared with Amedeo Amadei who played for Roma in May 1937.
